Reflecting on 2021 and Goals for Next Year

Reflecting on 2021 and Goals for Next Year

Last year's post: Reflecting on 2020 and Goals for Next Year

This year, I thought I’d write another reflection, but since it’s becoming more of a hassle every year, I’ll keep it brief.

Good Purchases

2021 was probably the year I spent the most money in my life.

  • Wedding
  • Moving
  • Car
  • M1 MacBook Air
  • Office chair

I feel like I bought a lot of other small things too.

Although I tend to be frugal, this was a year where I made meaningful expenditures.

Work

I’ve been feeling busier! (Not that I was ever particularly idle...)

I’ve been involved in various things, but I’ll leave the details to my resume and public articles.

Learning

In terms of tangible achievements, I earned the AWS SAA certification. In 2022, I aim to obtain the SAP certification.

As for coding, I’ve been writing Go here and there. I also attended and gave my first talk at GoCon.

Following 2020, I participated in ISUCon again in 2021. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it past the preliminaries...

I focused on input this year, and looking back at my Trello, I see tasks reflecting that focus here and there.

On the other hand, my output was limited. In that sense, it might have been a somewhat blurry year.

In 2021, I also aimed to learn beyond the application layer.

Reflection on Goals

My 2021 goal was "turn weaknesses into strengths."

In terms of reducing my discomfort with infrastructure-related tasks, I think I made decent progress.

Goals for 2022

This year, instead of a slogan-like goal, I set a more concrete one: "Increase the number of clear answers to the question, 'What can I do?'"

I’ll be turning 30 this year, and I feel the need to make long-term investments for the next 5 to 10 years. As part of that, I want to focus on clarifying my strengths.

Final Thoughts

I’ll just say that there isn’t enough time to summarize everything I’ve thought about over the past year.
